Responding to Substance Abuse
Many parents referred to child welfare agencies for concerns about child abuse and neglect are found to be struggling with substance abuse. Substance-exposed newborns must be reported to child welfare agencies to assess the need for protective services. Child welfare and substance abuse services can work together to provide coordinated interventions for families.
